IMPORTANT! Machu Picchu re-opened on April 1st.
The Sanctuary was closed by the Peruvian National Institute of Culture in late January 2010,
due to flooding that caused mudslides to wash out the train tracks to Aguas Calientes,
the jumping off point for visits to this UNESCO World Heritage site.
The tracks are now repaired and the City of Light is waiting for you!

This Sacred Sites Journey to PERU is open to the first 10 people who register.
Registration closes April 10th; we have a few places left.

TOUR DESCRIPTION

Journey with other spirit-centered travelers
to the majestic and awe-inspiring land of the ancient Incas
on a mystical journey to Machu Picchu!

PeruMachuPicchu2.jpg (29848 bytes)

Over nine years ago the most powerful center of earth energies shifted from
the Himalayas (masculine energy) to the Andes (feminine energy).

Since that time, many serious spiritual seekers have been drawn to come home
to the powerful nurturing energies of the Andes, to connect with the Apus (sacred mountains)
and the Pachamama (the Mother Earth) for their own personal healing and ascension to higher levels of consciousness.

The ancient Inca legend of the Pachacuti ("Turning of the World") or the New Sunrise
says that when the Eagle from the North flies with the Condor from the South,
peace will return to the Americas and spread throughout our world.

Travel with us as an Eagle representative!
Meet your Condor brothers and sisters and experience the peace of the Pachamama in this spiritual wonderland!

Engage the magic and mystery of the rich legacy of traditional Andean rituals
and the esoteric wisdom of the indigenous Elders
.

PeruQerosDonMariano.jpg (45401 bytes)

Connect with the energies of the Three Worlds of the Incan Cosmology
- the Lower (Ucu Pacha), Middle (Kay Pacha) & Upper (Hanan Pacha) World,
and their
Totem Animals - the Serpent, Puma and Condor.

Learn the lessons each of these has to offer YOU, and how to use them in your life
to be more in balance with yourself, as you further open your heart
...for personal growth and healing, as well as planetary healing.

PeruMachuPicchu3.jpg (53424 bytes)

Tap into the transformational energies of the ancient power spots,
such as Machu Picchu, the City of Light,
through meditation and group ritual that will elevate your consciousness!

During our special Sunrise Ceremony we will greet Taytay Inti (Father Sun)
as He returns to give life for another day to His Children,
just as the ancient Incas did when they inhabited the Sanctuary.

PLUS, you will have plenty of time to explore on your own!

At the sacred sites in and around charming and picturesque Cusco,
we will cleanse and enliven our chakras by connecting with the water, earth, fire and air elements
and the ancient Eternal Flame of Light that still exists for those that open their hearts to it!

At the sacred sites of Pisac & Ollantaytambo in the Sacred Valley of the Incas
we will soar with the Condors and connect with the elements of water and air.

IMPORTANT:
You will have time to relax and integrate the energies of the various sacred sites you will visit
so that your Sacred Journey will rejuvenate, restore and heal your body, mind and spirit!
This is not a "rush" tour!

A word from Andrea:
"Since 1993 I've been traveling to Peru and studying with the indigenous Elders.
These humble spiritual teachers serve the world by sharing the legacy of their ancestors.
Many of them were enlightened pre-Inca men and women who lived in total harmony with the Pachamama (Mother Earth).
They were healers, psychotherapists, and ritual specialists of the highest caliber.
I'm very honored to support you to become a part of this ancient lineage of wisdom that is so very important in our lives today."

During the last 15 years I've led over 27 Sacred Journeys to Peru.

TOUR ITINERARY
Cusco, Sacred Valley of the Incas and Machu Picchu
April 24 - May 1, 2010
(B = Breakfast, L = Lunch, D = Dinner)

Day 1. Saturday, April 24. TOUR BEGINS: Flight Lima to Cusco, Introductory Meeting, Welcome Dinner (D)
Your Sacred Journey to Peru begins today with the flight from Lima to Cusco. Please book your international flight to Lima to arrive by 6:00AM local time this morning, in order to connect with your later morning group flight to Cusco booked by Sacred Sites Journeys.
(NOTE: Pre-tour services in Lima can be arranged for arrivals on the evening of Friday, April 23rd. These include meeting at the airport by our local SSJ bilingual tour representative, transfer to a nearby airport hotel for overnight (includes breakfast), and transfer back to the airport on the morning of April 24th to check in for the flight to Cusco.)

PeruCuscoPlaza.jpg (15438 bytes)Check in for your flight that has been booked for you to Cusco by SSJ. Depart Lima on a spectacular 55 minute flight over the towering peaks of the Andes Mountains. As you fly into Cusco, colorful capital of the ancient Inca Empire, breathe and take in the welcome greetings from the snow-capped Apus (sacred mountains). Deplane, claim your luggage and exit the terminal. Meet SSJ's Tour Hostess/Speaker Andrea Mikana-Pinkham and our Guide Dr. Pepe Altamirano. Transfer to our hotel in the heart of the city and check in. Take time to rest in your room this afternoon to adjust to the change in altitude.

During our later afternoon Group Introductory Meeting Andrea and Pepe will explain the Incan Cosmology of the Three Worlds and the Pachamama, including the Totem Animals - the Serpent, the Puma and the Condor. During meditation time, one of these power animals will reveal itself to you through drawing special cards that Andrea will offer. Afterwards her long-time "family" who are some of Cusco's best silversmiths will bring a wide assortment of power animal amulets for you to choose from to wear for their support throughout our sacred journey. As well, they will soak up the powerful energies at each of the sacred sites we visit.

Afterwards we walk to a nearby restaurant for our Welcome Dinner of traditional Peruvian cuisine. Return walking to the hotel.
Overnight Cusco.

Day 2. Sunday, April 25. Cusco: Sacsayhuaman, Tambo Machay, & a Blessing from the Q'ero Elders (B)
PeruSacsayhuaman.jpg (23342 bytes)
After our delicious buffet breakfast we depart to visit the most important sacred sites in the Cusco area, with time for meditation. Our first stop is Sacsayhuaman, where you will see some of the most amazing Inca architecture - walls made of giant megalithic stones, fitted together perfectly without any mortar! Cusco was originally laid out in the shape of a puma, the totem animal of the Kay Pacha, the middle world in the Incan cosmology. Sacsayhuaman was the puma's head, and the zigzag walls at this amazing site represent the teeth, as well as the path of the lightning, a revered earth elemental for the Incas. This was also a Peru-TamboMachay-LBlackburn.jpg (26118 bytes)sacred temple for enlivening the Kundalini, or spiritual energies. Pepe, who is the former director of the National Park of Sacsayhuaman, and author of a brochure about the site, will guide us through many of the out-of-the-way sacred areas of the site, offering time for meditation to align with these dynamic energies that are still very palpable here. At the Eternal Flame of Light that has burned here for millennia we will connect with the Light within ourselves to enliven our Kundalini, or personal spiritual energy.

We then continue to Tambo Machay, the private fountains and baths of the Incan nobles and priests. The spring that supplies the water has flowed here for hundreds of years, from a source deep inside the Pachamama that has never been identified. We connect in sacredness with the water element Unu, cleansing our chakras and energy body, letting go of the old to make way for the new.PeruQerosDonMariano2.jpg (30253 bytes)

PeruQerosDespachoOffering.jpg (49552 bytes)Afterwards we will receive a traditional Incan blessing from Q'ero Elder Don Mariano and his apprentices, ritual specialists who are among some of the last remaining descendents of the Incas. They will perform a despacho (traditional ceremonial offering to the Pachamama), during which we will be invited to focus our intentions for our sacred journey. They will also pray to the Apus (sacred mountains) to bless each of us.

Return to Cusco. Lunch on your own. Then you have free time to visit the colonial cathedrals, archaeology or art museums, or shop in the traditional Andean marketplace. Dinner on your own. (Andrea will be available to escort the group to a local restaurant.) Overnight Cusco.

Day 3. Monday, April 26. To Sacred Valley: Pisac and Ollantaytambo (B/L)PeruPisac2.jpg (23851 bytes)
PeruSacredValley.jpg (32317 bytes)Wake up early this morning, pull your curtains, and welcome in the healing rays of Taytay Inti, Father Sun. After breakfast we check out of the hotel and depart to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, nestled between the majestic snow-covered Apus and fed by the waters of the sacred Urubamba River. We drive into the hills to the ancient solar observatory at Pisac and enter the site through the ancient Temple of the Condor. Pepe and Andrea will lead the group in a sacred ceremony to invoke within us the power of the Condor, totem of the Hanan Pacha, the Upper World. We then walk along the winding trail, full of magnificent vistas of the hills and valleys below, to the most sacred area of the site, the ancient Sun Temple, where we enjoy a knowledgeable tour of the site with Pepe.

Afterwards we walk down to our bus and drive to Doña Clorinda's Restaurant on the nearby banks of the Urubamba River for a nutritious lunch of traditional Peruvian dishes. Then it's Retail Therapy time at the Pisac marketplace! You can shop til you drop for locally-made colorful sweaters, ponchos, gloves, hats, jewelry, textiles, and other handicrafts. Andrea will take those who are interested to a shop that offers shamanic tools and power objects.

We depart to the other end of the Sacred Valley, stopping on the way in Urubamba at Seminario Pottery Studio. OwnersPeruSeminarioPotteryStudio.jpg (21111 bytes) Pablo and Marilú Seminario are dedicated to preserving the Inca art in combination with contemporary art by sculpting the red clay found in the Sacred Valley. Their house-cum-workshop is a center of learning for the workers who make up the workshop, mostly locals who are part of the intensely creative dynamics directed by the couple. Some of their art has recently been included in the collection of Chicago's Field Museum of Natural History. They will greet us, show us a short video about their over eighteen years of work here in the Valley,PeruOllantaytamboHotel.jpg (27091 bytes) and then give us a guided tour of the studio, where we will see dozens of local people at work. Last stop is the showroom, where you will be able to purchase wall art, as well as cups, saucers, pitchers, vases, incense burners, tiles and many other decorative and utilitarian items for your home, office, or for gifts. Not to worry; you can have them all shipped safely home and they'll arrive in perfect shape. (Major credit cards accepted)

We continue to Ollantaytambo, one of the oldest Inca towns in Peru, and check into our hotel, the House of Dawn. Free time to relax. Take a relaxing walk around the hotel gardens. Dinner on your own at the hotel restaurant or a local one in town. Overnight Ollantaytambo.

Day 4. Tuesday, April 27. Sacred Valley: Ollantaytambo, Free Time (B)PeruOllantaytambo2.jpg (19212 bytes)
PeruOllantaytamboFountain.jpg (22657 bytes)
After breakfast we walk from the hotel to the nearby sacred site of Ollantaytambo, also known as the Sanctuary of the Wind, an Inca fortress/temple that is one of the most impressive in Peru, both for its powerful sacred energies, as well as its unique history as one of the only places where the Incas defeated the Spanish! First, we visit the royal fountains and perform a shamanic energy cleansing ceremony, using Unu, the Water element. Then we walk beside a nearby gurgling stream to an area of the site that is not visited by many people - the Temple of the Condor, where we have time for individual meditation. We then walk up to the main altar area of the temple, where we receive our blessings from Wayra, the Wind element that is the guardian of the site.

Afterwards we return to the hotel. Lunch on your own. You have the afternoon free to explore the little village on your own, shop in the marketplace, maybe visit the local internet café to catch up on your email, or rest at the hotel. Take a walk in the flower-filled gardens, for a time of peace and solitude.

PeruQeros.jpg (24140 bytes)This evening we have a SPECIAL OPTIONAL OFFERING at Ollantaytambo for a healing ceremony with the Q'ero Elders, healers and ritual specialists who have received special training and undergone rigorous initiation. These pakkos, or persons of knowledge are also called alto misayoq - a highly trained and qualified Andean healer. Under their  knowledgeable care and guidance, we'll focus on letting go of the "old" in our lives that no longer serves us. Then to fill the void and enliven our Light Bodies, we'll dream the dreams that we want to manifest. (Your reservation for this transformational experience must be booked before departure to Peru. Cost is $50.00)

Return to the hotel. Perhaps you'd like to spend some time in meditation to prepare for our journey tomorrow to Machu Picchu. Dinner on your own. Overnight Ollantaytambo.

Day 5. Wednesday, April 28. To Machu Picchu (B/L)
IMPORTANT! February 16, 2010 - We've received confirmation from our land operator in Peru that Machu Picchu WILL be re-opened well before our visit in late April. Crews are working almost around the clock on the railroad line that was washed out the last week in January. The projected date for the re-opening of the line and Machu Picchu is mid March.
PeruMachuPicchu.jpg (53879 bytes)After an early breakfast, we check out of the hotel and walk around the corner to the train station, where we board the Vista Dome train to Machu Picchu. We travel alongside the wild Urubamba River deep into the mountain valleys of the high jungle surrounded by the snow-covered Apus on our approximately 1½ hour trip. We arrive at Aguas Calientes, the small village at the base of Machu Picchu. Porters from our hotel will meet us at the train station and take our bags to the hotel. We walk to the bus station and board a park bus to take us up to Machu Picchu, the ancient City of the Condor and recently voted one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World. You're finally here, at one of the most mysterious and sacred places on earth! Pepe will guide our group through the site to visit the Temples of the Sun & Moon, the Temple of the Condor, the Temple of the Three Windows, the world-famous spiritual center of the site, the Intihuatana, or the Hitching Post of the Sun, and the Pachamama Rock. In one of the temples he will offer an optional ceremony to further open your Third Eye, Inca style!

Full of the sacred energies we take a break and enjoy a delicious buffet lunch at the on-site hotel, perhaps accompanied by the joyful music of local Andean musicians. You have free time to re-enter the Sanctuary to explore on your own. Find the spot that calls to you and take time to sit and meditate among the powerful energies. Still your mind and listen with your heart to what the Ancient Ones have to tell you! They have a unique gift for you if you are willing to receive it!

Return on the bus to Aguas Calientes. Check in at the hotel. You have free time this evening. Maybe take a leisurely soak in the local hot springs, for which the little village is named. Or, sit out in the hotel garden and commune with Mama Quilla, the Mother Moon. Dinner on your own. (Andrea will be available to go with the group to one of the local restaurants.) Overnight Machu Picchu/Aguas Calientes.

Day 6. Thursday, April 29. Machu Picchu - Sunrise Ceremony, Free Time, Return to Cusco (B)
PeruMachuPicchuSunrise.jpg (6117 bytes)We return to Machu Picchu in the early morning to greet the sun in our special Sunrise Ceremony facilitated by Pepe and Andrea, just as the Incas did each day in the ancient past. We gather in an area that is not visited by many tourists, where we will be able to see Taytay Inti (Father Sun) as He peeks over the surrounding Apus. Open your arms! Open your heart! Receive the healing energies into your body, mind, and spirit! Remember yourself as one of the Intic Churincuna, Children of the Sun!

PeruMachuPicchuFlyWithTheCondors.jpg (37431 bytes)Afterwards at one of the nearby sacred shrines, we will "fly with the Condors"! Then you have plenty of free time for the the rest of the morning and early afternoon. Maybe climb the towering peak of Huayna Picchu (Young Peak) to look down on the City of the Condor from above. Or, hike half way up and then around to the side of the peak to the Temple of the Moon, a powerful feminine energy vortex, to meditate in the small cave, the womb of the Pachamama. Or return to Aguas Calientes and rest, relax and/or shop at the local market. Lunch on your own.

We board the afternoon train to Cusco and arrive early evening at our hotel. You have free time to rest, relax, explore, and/or finish your shopping. Dinner on your own. Overnight Cusco.

Day 7. Friday, April 30. Free Day in Cusco (B)
PeruCuscoMarket.jpg (104095 bytes)Take the day to rest, relax and explore more of the city on your own. Perhaps you'd like to finishPeruCuscoCoricancha.jpg (38209 bytes) off your shopping for gift-giving. There are many colorful and fun markets from which to choose. Or maybe you'd like to visit the Coricancha, the ancient Temple of the Sun, which was the center of the Inca's spiritual activities for the entire country. Or there are many musems and art galleries to visit. Restaurants for dining, some with musicians and dancers, some quiet and out of the way. (Andrea will be available for suggestions.)
Lunch and dinner on  your own. Overnight Cusco.

Day 8. Saturday, May 1. To Lima (B)

PeruLakeTiticaca2.jpg (20387 bytes)

Extension to Lake Titicaca

May 1 - 4, 2010

Day 8. Saturday, May 1. To Lake Titicaca (B/L/D)
PeruTempleOfWirococha.jpg (17797 bytes)After breakfast we check out of the hotel and depart via First Class tourist bus south along the sacred Urubamba River, through thePeruHotelLakeTiticaca.jpg (22625 bytes) altiplano, or high plains. We stop at the Temple of Wiracocha, believed by some experts to be one of the most important of Peru's ancient temples! Lunch  provided. We continue south through Puno, port city on Lake Titicaca, to the nearby quiet village of Chucuito, arriving late afternoon/early evening at our hotel overlooking the beautiful shores of Lake Titicaca. We are now in the heart of the Andean feminine energy, the powerful MamaCocha (Mother Lake). Check in and rest a bit before our group dinner at the hotel.
Overnight Chucuito/Lake Titicaca.

Day 9. Sunday, May 2. Uros Islands; Magic Dream Pillow Project with Local Children (B/L/D)
PeruLakeTiticacaUrosIslands.jpg (61272 bytes)After breakfast we travel by bus to the shores of the Lake where we board our private launch and motor out onto the tranquil waters of the MamaCocha to thePeruLakeTiticacaUrosIslandsReedBoats.jpg (31732 bytes) Uros Floating Islands, made entirely of the totora reed that grows in the Lake and named after the Uros people who inhabit them. Here we receive a warm welcome from these friendly island dwellers. After a short demonstration about how their islands are built and about their local economy and culture, we have an opportunity to visit their homes and get to know them a bit. As well we can support their meager existence by purchasing their richly colored hand embroidered tapestries, pillow covers, and other handicrafts. And we'll take a short ride out on the Lake in one of the reed boats, a peaceful time to relax and take in the powerful energies of the MamaCocha. Return to the hotel for lunch.

PeruDreamPillowArtProject.jpg (33404 bytes)SPECIAL OPPORTUNITY: In the afternoon we will take part in an art project with local children from the outlying rural areas around the Lake who will be brought to the hotel. This is an opportunity to teach the children the value of dreaming: how important is to have dreams, to wish for things, to have goals in our life.....and how visualizing your dreams in this way and keeping them near you while you sleep helps your dreams come true. Using fabric paints and markers, the children will decorate a pillowcase with their name and a drawing that represents their dreams for the future. Each child will leave with a Dream Pillow. So, bring your loving and creative self and let's give these children an experience that can affect them very positively for years to come. (Translators will be available to assist you. And remember, smiles and hugs need no words, only the language of the heart!)

Group dinner at the hotel. Overnight Chucuito/Lake Titicaca.

Day 10. Monday, May 3. Aramu Muru's Doorway; Farewell Dinner (B/L/D)

After an early breakfast we depart in our private bus to the interdimensional portal of Aramu Muru'sPeruAramuMuruDoorway.jpg (25157 bytes) Doorway. Ancient PeruAramuMuruDoorwayMeditation.jpg (18793 bytes)legend says that it was here that the sage Aramu Muru left the third dimension as he walked through the Doorway, never to return in physical body. His consort Arama Mara still lies over the Doorway, forever guarding this sacred site and inviting seekers to come and experience the palpable energies.  Upon arrival in the area we first sit in the Inca's Sun Seat that faces the Lake to connect with its nurturing feminine energies. Then you have the option to walk along the back of the Puma/Serpent rock formation. Afterwards we reboard the bus and drive to the Doorway. After preparing for our meditation using a traditional Andean ritual, one by one we stand in the "tubes" on either side of the Doorway to balance our male and female energies. You then enter the main portal where you have time for individual meditation to connect with the energies of Unconditional Love.

PeruLakeTiticacaLabyrinth.jpg (38497 bytes)Afterwards we return to the hotel for lunch. In the afternoon you have free time to rest, relax and enjoy the following optional activities (cost not included in tour package). 1) Use the Spa Facilities: dry or wet sauna, Jacuzzi, massage. 2) Experience a traditional Andean Coca Leaf Reading with a local ritual specialist who reads the coca leaves to answer questions about health, career, relationship, etc. 3) Walk across the highway to the nearby ancient pre-Incan Fertility Temple. We enjoy our Farewell Dinner tonight, a time to share some of our Sacred Sites Journeys' experiences with each other.
Overnight Chucuito/Lake Titicaca.

A Few Words from Sacred Sites Journeys Pilgrimages to Peru

Pepe and Andrea were a phenomenal team! They took excellent care of each group member, as well as the group in general. And they were most helpful at explaining the historical and sacred significance of the sites we visited. They helped us to connect with the powerful energies at each of them. D. Parker - AZ

The connection that I made to the Pachamama, the Mother Earth, was the most profound experience of my life! Everything in Peru is alive with energy! And offers it so willingly and lovingly to those who take the time to connect and honor it. I have never felt so loved or nurtured. During our journey Pepe and Andrea assisted us to make our connections with these palpable energies through the offering of Andean rituals and meditations at the sacred temples. And we had time to just sit and "tune in" and receive.
Anonymous by request

Everything about the Sacred Journey to Peru was wonderful. Pepe was so full of wisdom and charisma. Andrea was organized, thoughtful, and inspiring. It is true...Peru changed me forever...and for the better! C. Silard - AZ

Pepe was totally perfect as our Guide. Andrea's enthusiasm and understanding of the places we visited really made the trip.
C. Stephens - CA

Peru and her sacred sites are one of the places all serious spiritual seekers should experience in this lifetime! Machu Picchu called me home and I'm glad I heeded that call. The ancient energies of the site had much to share with me, on so many levels. I was able to get away from my everyday life and let go of all my concerns about it.. And therefore was able to open up to profound levels of healing. I'll never be the same, and am very thankful for that. And to Andrea and Pepe for facilitating my sacred journey so lovingly and competently. Anonymous by request

Our trip was amazing!. Thank you for all the planning, preparation and execution that went into it. We felt very taken care of - no details to worry about. It all went smoothly, or what changed on the fly worked out just the way it needed to. I found Peru to be a deeply loving, simple, yet powerful place. J. Elk - CA

Thank you so much for such an enriching experience.  Andrea and Pepe were fantastic guides. All hotels, transport and baggage were managed without a hitch. So smooth! B. Brown - MA

I admired Andrea's ability to make things work so well during our Peru journey. Anyone who attempts to accommodate the needs of 28 people, for two weeks, in a third-world country has to be talented, patient, and extremely well-prepared.
